EVE isn't for 'casual players' and neither should dust 514. if this game relased right now, i'd put it down right after i tried it out, it sucks. stop nerfing everything to try and make it balanced so these 'casual gamers' are happy. war isn't fair. what is your definition of casual. what is a casual FPS to you? is there such a thing as a hard core FPS? because i don't believe there is one. On PC yes. On console no. If this game was a skill based shooter we would have insane strafe speeds. This is a casual game. The eve players say they want one thing and then ask for another. I think the issue is most eve players don't understand what a hardcore fps is.
Frankly there is a level of kitten elitism within FPS where each person believes that the one they play (and this arguement is ALWAY true when PC vs Console comes in to the discussion) is Hardcore with other games not being such.
People can claim "EVE is Hardcore" as much as they want, but the truth is the only REAL difference between a Casual, Core and Hardcore; is often the time that they have available to them to play. CCP understands this all to well, while gamers on the whole don't even have the faintest idea what these terms really mean because they make up whatever definition they choose so they can pigeon hole themselves within some arbitrary group to feel better about themselves.
Seriously grow the kitten up, IT IS A GAME MEANT FOR ENTERTAINMENT / RECREATIONAL PURPOSES.
I would also like to point out that in realistic terms, most people who deem themselves "Hardcore Gamers" frankly are no such thing as they will focus entirely on a single game as if it was the greatest thing since the creation of the Universe, often believing themselves better than the rest of the said given community alienating themselves from the REAL benefit of playing games which is enjoyment and in terms of MMO titles a strong Social community.
If you want real proof that your mentality towards games is frankly misguided at best, then look at EVE. The largest group of "Casual" players are Goonswarm who currently enjoy holding 75% of the Universe within their grasp taking great pleasure from destroying everyone elses gaming experience.
You can claim "EVE is a Hardcore game meant only for the strongest to survive" but seriously that is just kitten mess. It is all about the friends you have regardless of your individual talents or the time you personally are willing to put in, because a single person frankly is a grain of sand in the universe.
Look at it this way right now with people saying that this game isn't even an FPS but an RPG, simply because there are what are deemed "Traditionally RPG elements" ... the Term RPG simply mean ROLE Playing Game, not "Stats Increase Game" and frankly it ashames me to be part of a modern gaming community today that can't understand the damn differenciation between Classification Terms so everyone can get a quick grasp on what a game might entail over the actual gameplay mechanics that create the games core experience.
If you can't understand any of this and hold on to your frankly ancient terminology particularly in a period where genre classification is becoming more difficult because developers are finally realising that you can successfully blend elements from other genres to improve depth within a game, then you have no right to deem yourselves gamers as you can't see past your own noses to the wider gaming world that there is.
By all means instead stay in your nice neatly constructed boxes of what games should be ignoring the potencial evolution they can take on, along with trying to hold bitterly to platform stereotypes to make yourselves feel better about classifying yourselves as "Hardcore Gamers"
I for one am truely thankful that it has been many years since anyone has considered me to be part of that elitist backward looking group, most of whom today don't even know what a bloody Commodore 64 or Spectrum ZX is ... believing that games they play today are truely hardcore while having never experienced Battletoads or Elite.
You want hardcore, go play Elite and just see how long you survive for.. or even more Hardcore, play it's sequal starting at the Lave (traditional) starting point. THOSE are Hardcore games, what most of you play today are like being wrapped in bubble wrap in comparison. |
